The Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is a Medical Institute of Ranchi University in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, India. The college is an autonomous body established under an act of Jharkhand Assembly and is one of the premier medical colleges in the state and India.
The institute was established in 1960 and was originally called Rajendra Medical College Hospital after Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. The Medical College Hospital came into existence in February 1965.Dr N.L. Mitra was the first principal of the college. Dr. K.P. Shrivastava was the first director of the Institute after it was renamed.Currently RIMS is in news for its up gradation. The Institute provides free medical service to the patients along with essential drugs.
The college is 1500 bedded Multi-Speciality Hospital with Advanced Diagnostic Tools. There is Oncology centre with the latest Radiation Machinery, a 100 seated Dental College. The college also has a 14 bedded Trauma centre, the first of its kind in Eastern India.

The institute offers MBBS course at the UG level, minimum eligibility criteria is a candidate should have passed 10+2 from a recognized board in Biology/Biotechnology, Physics and Chemistry subjects with 50% aggregate (40% in case of reserved categories).
Candidates holding a three-years B.Sc degree from a recognized university with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology including as practical subjects can also apply.
Selection is done on the basis of performance in NEET or JCECE. 85% of candidates are selected through JCECE (State level examination) and 15% of candidates are selected through NEET.
User facts:
- The minimum age of the candidate should be 17 years as on December 31, 2016.
- The upper age limit is 25 years (Relaxable up to 5 years for reserved categories).
- For JCECE, the candidates should be a citizen of India and local or permanent residence of Jharkhand state.
- Candidates will be required to produce the local or permanent residence certificate at the time of counselling.
- Document verification will be done at the time counselling, the candidates failing to provide all the required documents will not be considered.
- Selected candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination by the medical officers appointed. Candidates found medically unfit will not be admitted.
Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences offers 27 specializations in different courses at the PG level for 162 available seats.
Applicants desiring admission into PG Diploma, MD / MS / DM / M.Ch. course should be MBBS graduates and must have qualified JCECE to be eligible for admission. The selection of the students is done based on the ranks obtained in JCECE.

- Final selection list will be available at the official website, candidates are required to pay the fee before the notified date. Failing to do the same would cause rejection of candidature and seat shall be offered to next on waiting list.
